    Join ITZATNA for a colourful celebration of Life and Memory: Day of the Dead Arts & Crafts Workshop!

    Step into a world of vibrant colours, rich traditions, and heartfelt creativity as we honour Mexico’s Day of the Dead through arts and crafts! In this unique hands-on family-friendly workshop, you’ll learn about the magic of ‘Día de los Muertos’ while exploring traditional Mexican symbols like marigold flowers, monarch butterflies, hummingbirds, and the enchanting *Árboles de Vida* (Trees of Life) charms crafted in clay.

    What to Expect:

    – Paper Marigolds: Learn to make delicate, vibrant *flores de cempasúchil*, the iconic marigold flowers that light the path for spirits with their radiant orange glow.

    Butterfly Ancestors: Craft your own beautiful butterflies, symbolising the souls of ancestors returning to visit during this sacred time.

    Hummingbird Creations: Capture the spirit of the hummingbird, a beloved symbol of love, resilience and joy, in your own unique art.

    Clay Charms: Create your own small *árbol de vida*, or tree of life, to honour loved ones and celebrate the beauty of the cycle of life.

    ‘Stories Of The Wind ‘ is written by Isabel Quiroz, and directed by Ruth Mestel in collaboration with ITZATNA Arts. ‘Stories Of The Wind ‘ is part of ‘October Fiesta 2023’ – an original concept created by Outdoor Places Unusual Spaces (OPUS) and commissioned by Twycross Zoo, with original stories and games by Itzatna Arts and Isabel Quiroz.

    Come celebrate the saving of Moseley Road Baths, with an accessible and entertaining theatre production. As the Baths begins a redevelopment programme to repair, restore and transform, Women & Theatre tells the story of how these beloved Edwardian swimming baths were saved.
    Performed by a community cast, this is a fun, imaginative and engaging celebratory piece of theatre exploring how a group of wilful individuals united and rescued this civic space.
    Women & Theatre is a Birmingham based theatre company who have been making deep work about things that matter, using the language and lives of ordinary people for over 40 years.

    Join ITZATNA Arts this autumn for their ‘October Fiesta’ – an interactive children’s
    theatre show inspired by Mexican Day of the Dead and reimaged traditional
    stories and games about life, death, and rebirth in the animal kingdom. Through
    playful interaction, these stories and games support how families and adults can
    engage their young ones to think and talk about the subjects of death, dying, grief,
    and bereavement, through a renewed appreciation for life, animals, and Planet
    Earth, through the vibrant lens of Mexican culture.
    🦉 OWL is on a quest to find 🌟 COYOTE in an adventure that transcends borders
    and defies the boundaries between life and afterlife.
    󰐏 Mictlán, the mystical house of the Dead, awaits in Mexico, where these two
    spirit animals guide humans on their unique journey through life and beyond.
    ❤️ Together, they embark on a journey to Mictlán to help the souls of the departed
    reunite with their loved ones. But first, they must find their friend, COYOTE.
    🌍 Are you ready to journey to Mexico and assist OWL and COYOTE in their quest?
    You may even have the chance to hear a story from COYOTE, a master storyteller.
    🌟 Let’s all say “MÉXICO” together, and we’ll be transported to a world filled with
    mountains, the fragrance of flowers, and incredible stories.

    An exciting opportunity for creative, curious, local young people 12-16 yrs, who love to explore, imagine, tell stories & step into other people’s shoes. This is taster session for regular, weekly youth theatre sessions on Saturday afternoons. From Sept – March we will be exploring the theme ‘The Island’ What’s it all about? What does it mean to live on an island? How does it shape who we are, and who we are not? What does it mean to be “castaway’? And what is it like to be colonised? Islands have a gripping hold on our imaginations, offering conflicting possibilities: a paradise or a prison? refuge or danger? community or complete isolation?

    Don’t worry if you’re not sure this is your thing… Come along and try it out this Saturday and see what you think. You can also find out more about the other exciting plans and amazing opportunities being a member of The GAP Youth Theatre has to offer!

    What’s involved?

    We will use all kinds of drama techniques to get inside the hearts and minds of islanders, design theatre sets, make amazing masks and learn how to tell stories collectively for an audience through performance.

    Who’s leading it?

    The GAP has an excellent track record of giving young people meaningful and transformational arts experiences. It has highly experienced staff who are expert at facilitating the development of creativity, critical thinking, a confident sense of self and personal values, through the social practice of making theatre.

    What will it cost?

    There is NO CHARGE to belong to the GAP Youth Theatre. We just ask that you contribute your commitment. As well as having loads of fun on this project you will also need to be prepared to work hard as a reliable member of the team.

    A Serpent’s Gaze is an unconventional twist on the Greek mythological story of Medusa and her tale of misfortune. This piece uses comedic elements such as satire, breaking the fourth wall and melodrama to capture our audiences. We will also be creating original music and exploring themes of injustice and discrimination against women.
